uffizi room 49 pittori plandesi amsterdam xvii xviii secolo

Standing out among the works exhibited in this room are 4 portraits by Rembrandt, two of which are self-portraits marking the maturity of the artist; they once again show the artist's interest in man and his inner being. Very attracted by elderliness, here the artist approaches a new kind of beauty, not classical but, as said, inner being.

Then there is an intense Dutch landscape by Seghers, and various still lifes by Otto Marseus van Schrieck, Willem van Aelst and Rachel Ruysch.

Some compositions by the latter are admirable for the meticulousness and brilliance of the colours and attention to detail; distinctive of her still lifes is the presence of flowers and insects.
