MADONNA COL BAMBINO E DUE ANGELI
The group of characters portrayed is placed in front of an open window on a landscape that goes up to the horizon. In the foreground is the Madonna whose face, according to tradition, is inspired by Lippi's lover, Lucrezia Buti. She is sitting on a high chair in evident adoration of her son. Details are the veils and pearls that adorn the hair, taken from many painters throughout the '400. The child is supported by two angels and leans on his mother's right shoulder. Some scholars hypothesize that the face of the angel in the foreground is that of the painter's son, Filippino, who at the time was eight years old.
