ANNUNCIAZIONE
This is probably one of the first works commissioned to Leonardo while still practising in Verrocchio's workshop. Leonardo move away from the tradition and depict the scene in the garden and not inside the house of Mary as if to underline that the miracle of divine incarnation involves all creation. The depicted nature is really detailed, probably studied from life. In the same way even the bird wings of the angel come from studies bird's anatomy. Mary is sitting in front of a lectern decorated with classical motifs, she keeps a hand on the open page and the other raised as to accept his fate.
