ANNUNCIAZIONE TRA I SANTI ANSANO E MARGHERITA

annunciazione tra i santi ansano e margherita

The table was realized for the Duomo of Siena, it was mean to show to the lower class what they couldn't understand with written text. The table is divided in three panels: one big in the center and two smaller to the side. In the center is represented the Angel Gabriel while announcing to Virgin Mary that she's going to give birth to the son of God. Gabriel is handing to the lady a olive branch and is pointing to a dove, symbol of the Holy Spirit. From his mouth exited the words he's says to Mary, just like a modern comic. On the right panel is depicted Saint Margaret and on the other one is depicted Saint Anselm. To complete the masterpiece are four roundels with the faces of the prophet depicted inside: Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Isaiah and Daniel.
