ADORAZIONE DEL BAMBINO
The value of this work was recognized already in the '500 when the Duke of Mantua Francesco Gonzaga donated it to Cosimo II de' Medici. He wanted to expose it in the Tribuna degli Uffizi, the room where were collected all the most respected paintings. The picture, pretty small and surely intended for private devotion, represents Maria adoring the Child. The attention is captured by the simple gesture of Mary who, with her hands parted and the rapt expression, contemplates the baby Jesus. The here presented intimate relationship between mother and child make the image really modern and sweet.
