uffizi room 54 pittori olandesi haarlem utrecht xvii secolo

Moving on to the so-called Golden Age of Dutch painting, we encounter one of the masterpieces of Cornelis Bega, The Lute Player, another panel with the same theme is also on display here. He was appreciated for his subtle colour combinations and figures defined with extreme clarity.

Here we also find some landscapes by Cornelis van Poelenburgh that are representative of his style, such as: Mercury stealing the flock of Apollo and Landscape with Farmers, both created with the characteristic technique of oil on copper. Although remaining in line with the Nordic direction, his compositions are poetic and enriched by architectural contours and rather clear figures.
