Ponte Vecchio

The Ponte Vecchio is one of the symbols of the city of Florence. More strait crosses the river Arno in its point, where in the antiquity a comfortable one existed guado. The first construction laughed them to the roman age while the bridge in stone to five arched constructed around to 1170 was swept via from the alluvium of 1333, one of most violent that is remembered. After the construction of “lungarni”, the bridge came reconstructed in 1345 to work attributed to Taddeo Gaddi (from the Vasari), to three valichi to lowered arc, with the passage flanked from two rows of botteghe craftsmen.

The corridor sopraelevato, along approximately a kilometer and constructed in single five months, leaves from Ponte Vecchio, passes from the Gallery of the Uffizi, costeggia the Lungarno Archibusieri, passes therefore over the botteghe of the east side of the bridge, goes around to its extremity the tower of the Mannelli, supported from brackets and continues on the left river until Palazzo Pitti.
